Marketing & Public Relations Internship
About The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce:The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce is looking for an intern interested in learning all aspects of the public relations and marketing field.
The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization that supports and advances business and community interests, as well as the quality of life in Belleville and surrounding communities. The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce was ranked the third largest Chamber in the Greater St. Louis Area according to the St. Louis Business Journal and is the largest in Illinois south of Springfield. The Chamber provides its members an array of opportunities including but not limited to: networking, advertising, workshops, and committees. An additional part of the Chamber’s outreach involves the Greater Belleville Community. The Chamber hosts several community events throughout the year including the Annual Belleville Chili Cook-off, Back2School Fun Fair, Belleville Ale Fest and more.
The intern will work on a variety of communications and marketing projects and be involved in as many learning opportunities as possible throughout the semester, which may include:
Event Support – assist with planning and promoting events including the Belleville Chili Cook-off
Media Relations – write and edit media advisories and press releases, assist with media pitches, follow up and track media hits
Project Management – handle multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines
Publications – write, edit and design content for e-communications, newsletters, and website
Research – conduct research as needed for special projects
Social Media – develop content and assist with communications through Facebook and Twitter
Strategic Planning – help to prepare, develop and implement public relations and marketing plans
This volunteer intern provides support to and completes specific tasks as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Manager. Qualified candidates will possess a professional, service-oriented attitude, enthusiastically performing a wide variety of tasks including client interaction, teamwork, project preparation and staffing our events during business hours and after-hours when needed. This intern should be energetic, flexible, punctual, and dependable. Applicants should also have strong writing and communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of social media. Applicants should be pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or another related field and hold a junior, senior or recent graduate status. Qualified candidates must also have a mode of transportation to and from the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce, located at 216 East A Street, Belleville, Illinois.
This is a volunteer internship position. Internship hours are flexible based on the student’s schedule and the school’s requirements for credit completion if required. A minimum of four hours is required per week. The Chamber’s office hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, plus some evenings and weekends as needed.
