Catholic Urban Programs invites the public to join them on a special bus tour of four of their afterschool program sites in East St. Louis. The tour will provide an opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact these programs have on youth, offering enriching activities that support academic success, social development, and emotional well-being.
Lights On Afterschool, launched in 2000 by the Afterschool Alliance, is the only national event that showcases afterschool programs. It celebrates the vital role the programs play in helping children learn, grow, and reach their full potential. These programs provide a safe and supportive environment, filling the critical gap between school and home. With activities ranging from homework help to life skills and creative arts, afterschool programs are essential for keeping kids safe, inspiring learning, and helping working families.
In East St. Louis, where many children face significant socio-economic challenges, afterschool programs serve as lifelines. They provide not only academic support but also stability, mentorship, and a sense of community. Kristy Frawley, Director of Development at Catholic Urban Programs shares, “Our afterschool programs are critical in ensuring that children have access to resources they may not otherwise receive,” She continues, “We want the community to see first-hand how these programs are transforming lives. Get on the bus with us!”
